DAPNet Raffle of a Single D-Ring Harness made by Bowman Harness of Millersburg, Ohio or $300 cash

Drawing will be held at the Draft Animal-Power Field Days, Cornish NH Fairgrounds on Sunday, October 1st, 2017.

The raffle harness is a Bowman Harness semi-gloss bio/granite  D-Ring harness for a single draft horse.  It includes a complete bridle with V nose/split nose, removable square blinders and side check, steel farm hames, and adjustable basket britching. Specs: 6″ mullen ring bit, 21″ front trace, 28″ hames. Pad, shaft loops, and hold backs can also be ordered from Bowman Harness.

Bowman’s Harness developed this D-Ring harness inspired by Les Barden’s DVD with photos and measurements of Carl Russell’s harness. Their goal is to make a harness that functions as a D-Ring out of the box (with proper adjustment/fit). Many harness makers make a “D-Ring”, but few make them to be used correctly when hitching a pair to pole.  This harness features some differences when compared to the standard generic D-Ring that many harness shops offer: a shorter front trace to fit a normal sized draft horse,a longer front lazy strap to remove pressure on the collar when hitched properly (hame to jack snap), a longer and simpler trace carrier to allow for a proper line of draft with the britching adjusted just below point of buttocks, and a basket britching to maximize the horse’s ability to hold back a load . We now have a harness maker that has created a functional harness with the comfort of the animal in mind.

The actual raffle harness can be seen at the DAPNet booth at Horse Progress Days, Leola PA June 30-July 1 where Carl will be doing a presentation on the D-Ring Harness.  Carl will also be doing a similar presentation at the Draft Animal-Power Field Days, Cornish, NH on Saturday, September 30. Erika Marczak has the first prototypes and can answer specific questions about the design. The retail value of this harness is $615. Contact her at marczake [at] hotmail [dot] com
