Just wondering if anyone else is considering cutting some softwood, particularly pine, this summer. I am finding that pine prices seem to be way down at the moment. Are you all finding this to be true in your area? Aside from Hancock in Maine this pricing seems to have dropped considerably. Thoughts?

It is normal for pine to drop in the summer months. I have been hearing that pine markets are good though. Going to a mill in NH.
I just sold some oak on the stump to a cable skidder operator for $450. And I have had a few calls from guys looking for ash.

Yeah, pine blue-stains in summer if it sits. Last I knew the mill in Berlin didn’t take any this time of year.
Spruce/fir is still around $350 at Milan Lumber.June 28, 2015 at 10:13 am #85731
This is beyond the normal summer fluctuations. Sold pine/spruce/fir all summer last two years with good prices, but not at the moment. As long as I don’t let it sit on the landing stain not an issue…

Talked to a local mill owner today, he says all hardwood is dropping. Maple, birch, oak, all fell this week. According to this guy he said he wouldn’t recommend to any landowners to do large harvests for a while.
Not the news any of us wanted!

Things seems to looking up a bit in the pine markets. We are heading back in on Monday for pine that will ship to Hancock in Maine. They seem to be the best market we can reach from here. Anyone else cutting pine? How is the pricing looking for you?
