Draft Animal Power Podcast

WE ARE HAPPY TO ANNOUNCE THE LAUNCH OF THE FIRST-EVER DRAFT ANIMAL POWER PODCAST!

It’s been a long time coming, but DAPNet is proud to bring you the DAPCast. We think there are a lot of fascinating folks in our network and want to share their voices in a new way.

The DAPCast investigates the intersection between sustainable land use and working animals. Hard to pigeonhole, our podcast will inspire you to create the change you want to see both in the world and in your animals. It will provoke your thoughts on sustainability, and give you practical tips for getting big heavy animals to do what you want them to do. If you've ever had a twinge of curiosity about draft animals, or even if you're just interested in sustainable agriculture and silviculture/agroforestry, the DAPCast is worth a listen. Maggie Smith hosts Season 1 with fabulous editing by Louis Menard.

You should be able to find us on whatever podcast directory you use. If you like what you hear, don’t forget to subscribe to the podcast and leave us a rating and review. They discuss hay making equipment, horse (and teamster) training, mules, the Suffolk Punch breed, and the art of working with -- and building a life around -- draft horses. Find out more about Donn, his farm and collaborations and teamster training opportunities, at https://www.northlandsheepdairy.com/.

Episode 1 guest Donn Hewes in Michigan teaching at Tillers international.

Episode 2

In the second episode of the DAPCast, Maggie interviews Michael and Karma Glos of Kingbird Farm at their kitchen table in Richford, New York. With snow falling outside, cups of coffee on the table, and their pet parakeets chirping occasionally in the background, Michael and Karma tell the story of their unique diversified farmstead and talk about the reasons they farm with draft horses. It’s a light-hearted, far-reaching conversation touching on breeds (they love the Norwegian Fjord horse), economics, marketing, raising their daughter on the farm, and single vs. team work. Get to know these two great people via Episode 2 of the Draft Animal Power Network’s DAPCast.
